2D ARCHITECTURE
The Drawn Scholasticism
2D Architecture is a single man expedition studio run by an explorer, geographer, amateur anthropologist, philosopher, upland hunter and draftsman - David Deiss, 2nd Earl of Ely Nevada, who was born in an outskirt of Caucasus, tempered in dark alleys of New York City and lost in the vast landscape of the American west.
The name 2D Architecture, besides utilizing the initials of David Deiss, emphasizes the importance of the drawing in architectural representation in architecture general. 2D Architecture attempts to discover the truth, through apriori rationalism, using a drawing as a medium to demonstrate the self-evidence of project's ideas with clearness and distinctiveness.
2D Architecture, stressing on the rationalist point of view, employs a Via Negativa mode of thinking. Therefore, 2D Architecture knows what it is not and what it does not do but remains hesitant of declaring what it is.
2DA is not merely a “paper architecture” studio, it understands the need of the drawing as a foundational medium for ideation in design. Nor does it present a mere futurism, but offers a rationalist architecture of the future situated in the landscapes where architecture seems unnecessary. In those situations, 2DA embraces a myth of locality and tries to uncover surrounding layers via subtraction of the needless.
2DA architecture does not propose a manifesto or revolution though it dreams of a new epoch, a new Albertian moment, wherein the architectural representation and ideation goes beyond the drawing’s current purpose – bureaucratic and legal.
2DA is not a theoretical studio though it realizes the need for an intellectual framework. Nor it is a technocratic workshop.
2DA is not a formalist studio though it knows there is no architecture without form.
2DA is not a multidisciplinary studio though it always finds its sources of knowledge in various fields, outside of pure architectural speculations.
2DA is not interested in an architectural style or movement though it values when a building communicates through the tectonics and geometrical manipulations.
2DA is not an ecological studio but understands architect’s responsibility towards ecology and environment.
2DA is not a globalist though it recognizes we are all part of the planet we share. Nor does it embrace a mere regionalism though it sees the necessity of locality.
2DA does not take a political stand though It realizes there is nothing more important than the liberty of the sovereign individual.
Indeed, 2D architecture is a drawn scholasticism communicating through a drawn summa.
